According to Netcraft's January 2020 Web Server Survey, there are well over 1 billion sites on the world wide web (and counting). Everyone is trying to fight for a spot on Google Search. But how do you stand out from the rest? This is where search engine optimization (SEO) comes into play.



The definition

SEO is simply any method that can increase visibility of your website and its content on search engine results pages (SERPs).


What is the difference between SEO & SEM?

The main difference is in payment. In SEO, you need not pay Google for traffic or click. You simply earn a free spot in the search results by providing the most relevant content for any searched keywords. On the other hand, search engine marketing (SEM) is paid marketing. You will have to pay Google for every click that it brings you in order to appear in the ads section, usually at the top of SERPs.


Why do you need SEO for your business?


1. Everyone uses search engines now, particularly Google.

Internet users rely on search to answer almost all the questions they have. They include learning more about products and services, and to find companies. Even if a customer already knows your business name, they are likely to search for you on Google rather than trying to remember your domain.

If you provide valuable information and make it easy for Google to find and organize it, they will reward you with higher rankings. This increased exposure means more page visitors!


3. You get quality leads, for free.

Be there when they are actively searching. Climbing to the top of the search page means that you’re providing information to the people who want it most, when they want it. Unlike advertising, you aren't forcing information down consumers' throat. You are simply there, at the top of their search.


The secret ingredient of SEO?

SEO is about working with the search engines. You both have the same goal: providing valuable information to users when they need it. To do that, you need to understand how it works. There isn't a secret ingredient or formula. It is not a magical tool / process that can be implemented such that your website ranks #1 for a keyword or a phrase overnight.


As search engines become more sophisticated, they learn to return real results instead of low-quality articles stuffed with keywords. Google actually penalizes bad SEO techniques and reward content that is truly optimized for search engines and useful for users.


SEO is a combination of activities that help search engines find you, organize the information you’re publishing, and present it to users searching for it. There are many technical ways to improve how Google find you and crawl through your content. The first question to ask is: Is your content even readable by Google in the first place?
